The interests of the Ministry of Equipment and Water are working to accelerate the pace of construction work on the Tarka Umtadi dam in the Malouya basin, in order to overcome the drought and the high demand for water.
The ministry aims to reduce the completion period of this dam by about a full year, as its operation is scheduled to begin in early 2026 while it was supposed to be completed in April 2027.
The progress rate of construction work on the Tarka Omadi Dam has reached 52 percent, in a bid to help improve water supply in the region that has been suffering from drought for the past six years.
The capacity of this dam is expected to reach 287 million cubic meters when completed, since more than 80 thousand cubic meters of concrete and more than 5 million cubic meters of stones were filled to complete it.

In the same context, the governor of the province of Guercif carries out successive field visits to monitor the work of this large water workshop, and insists each time on the need to accelerate its completion as soon as possible.

The completion of the “Tarka Oumadi” dam aims to supply the population of Guercif with drinking water, provide water for irrigating agricultural land, combat drought and create economic, social, tourist and environmental development in the region.
