Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was seriously injured during his team’s match against Villarreal in the sixth round of the Spanish League, which ended in a 5-1 victory for Barcelona.
Initial reports revealed shocking details of Ter Stegen’s injury after he was carried off on a ‘stretcher’.
Ter Stegen’s injury came after he tried to come out to collect the ball from a cross but landed on his foot incorrectly and it turned out he was suffering from pain in his left knee.
The goalkeeper screamed in pain and the Barcelona doctor quickly entered the pitch to treat him, then asked to be replaced, amid the concern of German coach Hansi Flick and the Blaugrana players.
Ter Stegen appeared to be crying as he left the pitch on a ‘stretcher’ accompanied by the medical team, especially as he continued to scream in intense pain at the time the injury occurred.

Following his injury, goalkeeper Ter Stegen left the “La Ceramica” stadium and travelled to Vitas, in Castellon (Spanish province), where he underwent initial tests to determine the nature of the injury.
The Catalan newspaper “Sport” reported in an article that tests showed that Ter Stegen had suffered a fracture of the patellar tendon in his right knee.
The Catalan newspaper explains that the 32-year-old goalkeeper will be absent from the field for up to eight months, which means that the 2024-25 season is over for the German goalkeeper.
The newspaper states that due to the seriousness of the injury, the goalkeeper had to be transferred in a wheelchair after leaving the hospital to the car that took him back to Barcelona.
Ter Stegen’s injury is a major blow for the Catalan team, who are already suffering from the absence of several key players such as Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen and Frenkie de Jong.
This season, Ter Stegen has participated with the Catalan club in 7 matches in various competitions, with six matches in the Spanish League and one in the Champions League, conceding 7 goals and leaving without a goal in only one match.
