The issue of mass circumcision which took place in Chefchaouen has sparked widespread controversy in several circles, including political ones.
In this context, Abdel Rahim Bouazza, member of the Authenticity and Modernity team at the House of Representatives, addressed a written question to the Minister of Health and Social Protection on the details of the mass circumcision operation which was carried out at the regional hospital. in Chefchaouen on the occasion of the Prophet’s birthday. It was organized by a local association on September 20 and brought together more than 40 children from poor families in the region. But the event turned into tragedy a few days later, as five children developed serious infections in their wounds, which required their emergency transfer to the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Tangier.
In this context, Bouazza called for the opening of a thorough investigation to discover the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible, especially since the injured children were exposed to serious health risks.
The written question also raised questions about the extent to which medical procedures followed during the circumcision process met necessary safety standards.
The families of the five children who suffered bacterial infections following the operation have called on authorities to open an investigation into the matter.
The families explained that the operations, which benefited 45 children, were not carried out by a surgeon, as indicated in the press release from the organizing association, but rather by a general practitioner.
