The Locos Aquarium Agency created a group of exploratory water points, which were transformed into exploitation holes, in application of royal directives.
According to official data released by the agency, the number of successfully completed operational drillings over the past four years reached 207 drillings.
This project is part of the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program for the period 2020-2027, and has obtained positive results which have contributed to supplying 100 roundabouts in the north of the Kingdom, and the total depth of these holes reached 18,208 meters.
In 2024 and until last October, 24 operational boreholes were drilled, with an average flow rate of 58.35 liters per second and a total depth of 2,477 meters, which made it possible to secure the supply of drinking water from several localities in the north of the Kingdom. .
In 2023, 46 holes were drilled, with an average flow rate of 31.15 liters per second and a similar depth of 2,477 meters. In 2022, 74 holes were drilled, with an average flow rate of 64 liters per second and a total depth of 6,149 meters.
In 2021, 44 boreholes were carried out in several rural and mountainous areas of northern Morocco, with an average flow rate of 63.8 liters per second and a total depth of 3,880 meters. In 2020, 19 holes were drilled with an average flow rate of 22 liters per second and a total depth of 1,445 meters.
Among the most important regions benefiting from these drillings are: Tétouan, Chefchaouen, Zane, Larache, Al Hoceima and Fahs-Anjra.
The agency is also working to include a number of districts that suffer from severe water shortages in the list of beneficiaries of a project to carry out exploration and exploitation drilling during the year to come, to meet their drinking water needs.
