Heba Press – Kenitra
The industrial sector in Morocco is experiencing rapid growth, which reflects the government’s efforts to attract foreign investment to create new employment opportunities.
In this context, construction work was officially launched on the “Gigafactory” factory in the city of Kenitra, which will be supervised by the Sino-European group “Guochun Hi-Tech”, leader in the field of electric mobility.
This factory aims to build an integrated production system for electric car batteries for local distribution and export.
This project, once completed, is expected to help create thousands of job opportunities.
Choosing to locate in Kenitra, in the Atlantic free zone, offers significant logistical advantages, such as proximity to Europe and the benefit of free trade agreements, which helps to strengthen commercial connectivity.
This factory constitutes an important step towards achieving Morocco’s objectives in the field of clean energy and the promotion of the circular economy, as it will attract significant investments in the renewable energy sector and stimulate local industrial and technological development, pushing the Kingdom towards a new economic phase.
The government had entered into an investment agreement with Goshen Hi-Tech to support this project, while Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch visited the company’s headquarters in China last September, where he discussed with the president of group, Zen Li, the progress of work on the project.
Goshen Hi-Tech benefits from the support of the German Volkswagen group, one of the main investors in the project, whose production will reach an estimated capacity of 20 gigawatt hours, for an investment cost of 12.8 billion dirhams.
This project is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region to produce electric car batteries, consolidating Morocco’s position as a regional leader in the automotive industry and the transition to sustainable energy.
