Heba Press – Fez Office
ADI, a subsidiary of the NAREVA group, won a contract launched by the Ministry of Equipment and Water to prepare a study on the possibility of supplying the Fez-Meknes region with sea water after desalination. The company presented the most competitive financial offer of 1.78 million dirhams, outperforming CID and NOVEC, also in the running to win this operation.
Project motivations
This measure responds to the expectations of the Ministry of Equipment and Water regarding the potential shortage of water resources in the region, as water resources could become incapable of meeting the growing needs for drinking water, in addition to the demands of industrial sectors and tourism activities. This expected deficit is due to climate change and low rainfall, which the region witnesses intermittently and irregularly.
Proposed solutions
In addition to the current dependence on the Idris I Dam, the use of seawater desalination is one of the options proposed to fill the shortage of water resources, especially if traditional resources continue to decline.
Study details
ADI is expected to complete the study within 10 months and will include:
Evaluate the possibilities available for water supply in the region.
Provide technical proposals based on these capabilities.
This study is part of the ministry’s efforts to find innovative and sustainable solutions to address the water challenges that threaten the region’s development.
