The parliamentary group of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) in the German Bundestag has submitted a proposal to extend the “Western Balkans Regulation”, which regulates the entry of workers into the labor market in Germany, to include other countries like Morocco.
This expansion aims to provide legal opportunities for young Moroccans to join the European labor market and benefit from their skills and competencies in various sectors.
Konstantin Kohli, vice-president of the parliamentary group, explained that the experiment launched with the Balkan countries has proven effective in reducing irregular migration and meeting the needs of the German labor market.
He also stressed that Morocco, alongside other countries such as India, Vietnam and Brazil, is one of the countries likely to benefit from this model.
According to data from the German Federal Ministry of Labor, around 25,000 work permits were issued under this regulation between June and November 2023, with a particular focus on sectors that require specialized labor, which reflects the promising opportunities for ambitious young people.
The facilities of the “Western Balkans Regulation”, activated in 2021, are characterized by their high flexibility, as they do not require official recognition of the professional qualifications of workers in most sectors.
The inclusion of Morocco among the beneficiary countries will make it possible to offer legal and safe immigration routes to Moroccan youth.
