AFC Futsal Asian Cup novices earlier this month, Afghanistan wrote one of the greatest fairy tales in history by qualifying for the FIFA Futsal World Cup™ on his first attempt.

After surprising observers by giving IR Iran a comeback on the first day of the Asian Cup, then passing the group stage, the Afghans lost in the quarter-finals (2-1 ap against Tajikistan) before competing in the play-offs.

Winners of Iraq (5-3) in the semi-finals of the play-offs, they made an appointment with the Kyrgyz Republic in the final, with a place in the World Cup at stake.

Omid Qanbari opened the scoring for Afghanistan in the first period, then the Afghans doubled the lead midway through the second, taking advantage of an own goal from Mukhamed Askarbekov. They then deployed, notably with goals from captain Mahdi Norowzi and Mehran Gholami even if the Kyrgyz Republic had a slight start. Thus, six goals were scored in the last ten minutes, but the Afghans scored a 5-3 success to validate their ticket for their first World Cup.
