In the final round of the group stage of the African Champions League, Raja Athletic Club left the competition despite its victory against the Congolese club Manyema Union (1-0), today Sunday, while the Royal Army forced a draw against host Mamelodi Sundowns, South Africa (1-1), to claim victory against the group-leading military team.
Raja Athletic Club, who achieved a difficult victory against Maniema Union thanks to a penalty scored by Adam El-Nafati in the 45th+5th minute, failed to advance to the quarter-finals after the tie Royal Army against Saint Downs. Although the green team presented a continued offensive performance after Al-Nafati’s goal, they settled for three points from the match to stay in third place with 8 points, behind second-placed San Downs with 9 points.
On the other hand, Royal Army continued to shine in the group after their draw against Sun Downs, maintaining their lead with 10 points. The South African team took the lead in the first half thanks to Peter Chalolele, but the Royal Army were able to come back in the 65th minute thanks to a magnificent shot from Amin Zahzouh. Despite the pressure imposed by the Sun Downs, the military team finished the group stage undefeated.
