Ousmane Dembélé no longer stops scoring at the start of 2025. Auspicious for PSG before the FIFA ™ club World Cup in a few months.
Ousmane Dembélé has just scored 15 goals in nine games
The Paris Saint-Germain player impresses in his new center-forward role
The French star will be one of the players to follow during The FIFA 2025 ™ FIFA Club World Cup
In the space of three days, Ousmane Dembélé recently taped the entire football planet by scoring six goals thanks to two triplets in a row, one in the UEFA Champions League against the VFB Stuttgart (4-1), L Other in Ligue 1 against Stade Brestois (5-2). For a player more used to serving rather than concluding, this sequence may surprise, all the more if we scrutinize his statistics from last season. In 51 matches in all competitions, Dembélé had indeed found the flaw only six times.
Since the start of the season, it is an Ousmane Dembélé 2.0 that the supporters of Paris Saint-Germain have seen evolving. Beyond his two triplets in a row, the former Barcelona has already registered 21 goals in all competitions, more than on all of his last three seasons combined (17). You have to go back to the 2018/19 season, when he played at Barça, to find a trace of his most prolific season (14 goals, 8 assists in all competitions). A brand he has already sprayed at five months before the end of the season.
“Today, he is on a spectacular momentum,” his coach Luis Enrique recently said at a press conference. “It is obvious that he has already improved his figures compared to the previous seasons of his professional career. But our goal with Ousmane is in no way to set limits. »»
City winner, Paris Saint-Germain has undoubtedly changed dimension
Renowned for the quality of his management and his eternal requirement, Luis Enrique is the first coach to have woke up in this way the scorer who was sleeping in Ousmane Dembélé. Even if it means surprising in his choices, as when he did not summon the ex-Rennais for a European trip to Arsenal (reverse 3-0), the Iberian technician ended up finding the best balance with his player and C ‘is all the PSG who benefits.
The main interested party, when asked to find the words to justify this unprecedented dynamic, fell the Map of Modesty and grew more collective work. “It’s good, but I think that today you have to congratulate the team and especially the smugglers since on the first goal, I just have to push it to the bottom,” he notably Declared at the microphone of BeIN Sports after his demonstration of efficiency against Brest.
If Dembélé puts goals like pearls, it is also because after having tested many offensive formulas, Luis Enrique ended up finding the winning recipe by positioning it either as the overflow winger he has always been , but like a pure center center. And obviously, it changes everything.
“I am well placed, I am in the role of number 9 and I have to score goals,” analyzed the current top scorer in Ligue 1 with 16 achievements, still in the wake of his Brestois triplet. “I played more straight, glued to the line, it was more difficult to go score goals. I had to dribble three, four players to score. There, I have only one or I just push it to the bottom. »»
The click, Enrique as Dembélé found him one evening from December at home against Lyon (3-1 victory), in a match where the 27-year-old took only eight minutes to exploit his new position on the Land to open the scoring. Since then, whether it has been aligned from the outset to point or that he finds himself there with the permutation game with Bradley Barcola, Désiré Goué or the newcomer Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, he stops scoring.
On his last nine games, he scored 15 goals, including a new double during the last meeting against AS Monaco in the league (4-1). In this period of time, he has not signed any assist, however his specialty, he who had delivered eight during his first 11 appearances this season. This seems to confirm his sudden metamorphosis.
The national coach Didier Deschamps also played the game of analysis on the form of the moment of Ousmane Dembélé who is greeted on all sides. “(The finish) was his most important margin of progression and given his potential, it is not a surprise,” he said on February 3 in the team columns. “It is linked to its repositioning, but it should not be forgotten that Ooumane, during sessions or end of training exercises, has always been very skilful in the face of the goal. And with both feet. We must never forget this aspect at home. »»
Sometimes kindly mocked because of his clumsiness in front of the cages or his lack of finish, Ousmane Dembélé no longer makes many people laugh at the start of February. And certainly not the teams that Paris Saint-Germain will come across in group B at the FIFA 2025 ™ club World Cup, namely Atlético de Madrid, Botafogo and Seattle Sounders FC.
In the space of a few weeks, the former Borussia Dortmund player brilliantly put an end to the debate as to the absence of a large scorer at PSG since the departure of Kylian Mbappé for Real Madrid C. F., last summer. For Luis Enrique, there is no doubt that his player must be one of the leaders, if not the leader of his team during future deadlines.
“He is a very open man,” says the technician. “I think he gets along very well with all his teammates (…) It must be important for the team, it is not only a question of scoring goals. It’s much more complicated than that. »»
A few weeks ago, at the time of the drawing of the group phase of the Club World Cup, few people saw in Ousmane Dembélé a credible candidate for the Golden Shoe who will reward the top scorer in the competition. It is a safe bet, however, that many are now likely to quickly think of French when they are asked to deliver a prognosis.
