Heba Press – Abdul Latif Baraka
In an exciting match this evening, Friday, March 21, the Moroccan national team brought together its Niger counterpart as part of the World Cup qualifications in 2026, which ended with the victory of the Atlas Lions with two goals to one.
The match, which was held on the field of the international stadium in Oujda, also attended a confrontation between two national executives who presented a lot of Moroccan football: Badou Al Zaki, the current coach of the national team of Niger, and Walid Al -Rarkaki, the Atlas Lions coach.
But what distinguishes this match is not only the result, but the impressive moment that followed the final whistle, when a hot hug was watched between Zaki and Rakraki, as if it were a message that was clearly sent to everyone, confirming the close relationship between the student and his teacher, in a rare sport.
From “Tunisie’s Epic” to the coach’s struggle
Looking at the history of the relationship between Zaki and Rakraki, we can say that the confrontation between them was more than a simple ordinary match. During the 2004 African Nations Cup, Badou Zaki was the coach of the Moroccan national team who led him to reach the final against Tunisia, and Walid Al -Rakraki was one of the team’s pillars, where he achieved a wonderful performance that greatly contributed to the achievement of historic morocia. Today, after more than 20 years, Al -Rakraki returns to face Zaki, but this time as a coach of the Moroccan national team against the Niger coach.
Zaki and Rakraki: from cooperation to competition
Despite the different roles of this match, there is always a kind of appreciation and respect between Zaki and Rakraki. During the press conference preceding the match, Al -Rarkaki praised the great efficiency of Badu Zaki, saying that he is a “leading figure and a legend of Moroccan football”, referring to what Zaki presented to national football throughout his career.
On the other hand, the sporting spirit and mutual respect between the coaches were clear at the time of the hugs after the match, which made the scene more symbolic. Al -Rakraki, who was raised in the hands of Zaki, who has now become one of the best coaches in Moroccan football, has shown great maturity in the treatment of his competitors, especially since he faced his “teacher” in a match not only limited to tactical dimensions, but also carries emotional and historical dimensions.
The student excelled?
If we look at the current achievements of Zaki and Rakraki, we can say that this student has exceeded his teacher in some respects. Al -Rakraki managed to lead the Moroccan national team to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, in the realization of the first of its kind in 36 years, while Zaki is still looking for a qualification with Niger at the World Cup. These victories can make Rakraki a “superior student” who continues to provide high levels in the world of training, while Zaki tries to rekindle the passion of the ball in Niger.
But in the end, the sporting spirit between the two remains the most important message. The professor and the student, despite competition and challenges, remain great symbols in the history of Moroccan football, and each of them has his own imprint that the days will not erase.
