The Minister of Agriculture: “Our country produces 12.3 million tonnes of vegetables and fruits per year”.

Mohamed Sadiki, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, affirmed that Morocco produces approximately 12.3 million tonnes of vegetables and fruits annually.

In this regard, the minister specified, during his intervention before the Committee on Productive Sectors in the House of Representatives, that the production sectors produce 12.3 million tonnes of vegetables and fruits nationally, the objective being to reach 20 million tonnes.

Minister Sadiki stressed that the total cultivated area in the different regions of Morocco is 800,000 hectares, with a goal of reaching one million hectares through the intensification technique.

Mohamed Sadiki also indicated that around 9.7 million tonnes of vegetables and fruits are marketed nationally, or 80% of production intended for markets and domestic consumption.
