In a post published on his official page, Abdelilah Benkirane, the Secretary-General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), apologized to party leader Abdelaziz Aftati following remarks made during the party’s youth national meeting’s general session on Saturday, September 20th.
Benkirane stated in the post: “I apologize for using hurtful words towards my brother Abdelaziz Aftati, who, along with our brothers and sisters, knows the affection I hold for him despite our differences.” Despite his apology, the PJD Secretary-General stressed his complete rejection of Aftati’s previous post regarding the ongoing electoral consultations, considering its expressions “inconsistent with the party’s positions and disregardful of its official initiatives to address certain political issues.” Benkirane affirmed that any individual statements or positions must respect the party’s authority and institutions, urging all members to adhere to the positions and decisions issued by official bodies and avoid any initiatives that disrupt the party’s political line.
