HIBAPRESS – Chafiq Annouri
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune admitted that he was a victim of the false figures presented to him by some sectors, stressing his reliance on digitalization to solve this problem.
Tebboune said in a televised interview that "sometimes we do not have the real figures," adding that digitalization would provide the truth, instead of walking in ambiguity. He explained that within the framework of digitalization, the Ministry of Agriculture will use drones to calculate the planted areas and give estimates of the expected production quantity. Tebboune confirmed in response to a question from one of his interlocutors, who said that "the issue of figures misled you" and whether there were sectors that refused digitalization, that "there are some sectors that live in ambiguity and refuse digitalization." Tebboune had previously made several statements that carried false or inaccurate figures, including his statement at the beginning of 2023, that his country's authorities had managed to seize $36 billion in the house of a family in the country, which was considered impossible at the time given the cubic size of the seized money. In September of the same year, the Algerian President announced before the leaders of the countries at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, that his country had started an ambitious program to desalinate seawater, and will reach, by the end of 2024, a production capacity of approximately 1.3 billion cubic meters per day.
