HIBAPRESS
Once again, the Algerian military regime has demonstrated its skill in manipulating facts and misleading public opinion, after attempting to deflect responsibility from the real culprits in the tragedy of the collapse of a section of the upper stands of the 5 July stadium, which claimed the lives of four supporters of the Mouloudia Club of Algiers on June 21, 2025.
The Algerian regime's attempt to silence public anger. After President Abdelmadjid Tebboune called for an investigation into the disaster, the Algerian authorities announced the temporary detention of four small officials, in a move that observers considered a mere desperate attempt to silence public anger and present "scapegoats" instead of holding the actual officials responsible for the dilapidated infrastructure of Algerian stadiums accountable. According to a statement issued by the Council of Justice of Algeria, the investigation included a group of employees of the Mohamed Boudiaf Olympic Complex, including leaders Yassin, general manager in charge of management, and Haj Ali Muhammad, head of the 5 July stadium unit, in addition to Belmadani Belkacem, assistant director of the unit, and Atouch Ali, director of equipment and maintenance, and Tio Abdelkader, director of administration and means, along with others from the technical workshops officials. Judicial farce Observers believe that what happened is nothing more than a judicial farce to cover up the scandal that revealed the true face of the military regime and its abject failure to manage sports infrastructure, as Algerian stadiums have turned into "death traps" instead of being spaces for entertainment and celebration.
