Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, held talks today in Dakar with the Senegalese Minister of Water and Sanitation, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, on the sidelines of the 14th session of the General Assembly of the Council of African Ministers in charge of Water.
During the meeting, the two ministers exchanged views on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of water and sanitation, focusing on sharing expertise and identifying new opportunities for cooperation. Omar Sène, Director of Liquid Sanitation at the Senegalese Ministry of Water and Sanitation, stated to the Moroccan News Agency that the partnership between Morocco and Senegal in the field of water and sanitation "is being strengthened through a realistic action plan that will be implemented by 2027." Sène mentioned that this partnership, embodied by an agreement signed in January 2023 in Rabat, reflects the convergence of positions of the two countries, which "share the same priorities and a common vision on the international stage." He explained that the meeting held in Dakar between the water ministries in Morocco and Senegal enabled the coordination of positions, the identification of common priorities, and the continuation of coordination during the upcoming meeting in Morocco next December, with a view to launching the process of implementing the bilateral action plan. On the sidelines of the General Assembly of the Council, Nizar Baraka held a series of bilateral discussions with a number of African ministers in charge of the sector. The discussions focused on the development of non-conventional water resources, desalination of seawater using renewable energies and energy efficiency, and the promotion of partnerships between the public and private sectors.
