June 24, International Day of Women in Diplomacy: Violence against women in politics

When women are represented in legislative bodies, the effectiveness of governance is enhanced and a wider range of perspectives and experiences are taken into account in decision-making processes.

This inclusion not only reflects the diversity of the population, but also leads to better informed policies that meet the needs of all citizens.

However, the sad reality is that violence against women in politics remains a significant problem hindering progress towards gender equality.

Not only does this violence violate women’s basic human rights, it also poses a serious threat to their participation in the political process. It creates a hostile environment that discourages women from entering politics or expressing their opinions, ultimately compromising their ability to fully contribute to society.
