The High Commission for Planning reported that the index numbers for foreign trade recorded a decline during the second quarter of 2025, with the index number for average import values decreasing by 5.7 percent and for exports by 0.8 percent.
The Commission explained, in a news release on the index numbers for foreign trade for the second quarter of 2025, that the decline in the index number for average import values is mainly due to the decrease in average values in the "energy and lubricants" usage groups by 19.2 percent, in "consumer goods" by 6 percent, in "industrial equipment" by 4.9 percent, in "semi-finished products" by 4.4 percent, in "food, beverages, and tobacco" by 1.7 percent, in "raw materials of animal and plant origin" by 4.5 percent, and in "agricultural equipment" by 21 percent.
Regarding the index number for average export values, its decline is mainly due to the decrease in average values in "industrial equipment" by 5.8 percent, in "consumer goods" by 2.1 percent, in "raw materials of mineral origin" by 11 percent, in "raw materials of animal and plant origin" by 25 percent, in "food, beverages, and tobacco" by 0.9 percent, in "energy and lubricants" by 12.1 percent, and in "agricultural equipment" by 12.4 percent.
In contrast, this index number recorded an increase in "semi-finished products" by 9.8 percent, thereby contributing to mitigating the decline in the overall export index number.
