HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
In a scene dominated by tension and sadness, dozens of relatives of the accused gathered in the acts of rioting that witnessed some areas of the Souss-Massa region, this Friday morning, in front of the Court of Appeal in Agadir, which convened to consider files described as dangerous, after a wave of destruction and violence that erupted after calls launched by young people on social media sites.
Referring these cases to the Court of Appeal reveals the seriousness of the actions attributed to the accused, which amount to criminal charges, which are likely to result in heavy sentences. According to informed sources, the list of charges includes assaulting public forces, storming official institutions, arson, forcibly closing public roads, unauthorized gatherings, destruction of public and private property, as well as drug use and refusal to comply with the authorities' orders. Legal estimates indicate that the penalties may range from three years in prison, up to life imprisonment in some cases. In a related development, the Court of First Instance in Agadir issued its first rulings in this case, where it convicted one of the most prominent instigators of these acts of sabotage, who exploited his Facebook page to call for chaos, and sentenced him to four years in prison and a fine of 50,000 dirhams. The judicial police departments are still continuing their investigations, under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution, in order to complete the investigations, identify the rest of those involved, and collect the necessary evidence before referring the files to the judiciary. The local street anxiously awaits what the coming days will bring, amid calls for calm, respect for the law, and the preservation of public peace.
