HIBAPRESS – Fikri Ould Ali
A new poetry publication by the Moroccan poet and author Imhaa Makkawi has recently been released by Dar Al-Qadisiyah for Printing and Publishing, entitled "Flowers of Andalusia and the Glories of the Moroccan Sahara and Other Poems." This is her fourth literary work added to her repertoire, rich with creativity and distinction. This poetic work follows three prominent publications: "Roar of the Wave," "Fires That Do Not Burn," and her critical and contemplative book "Dialogues, Reflections and Opinions on the Melodies of Poetry and Zajal," reflecting a solid literary path that breathes the beauty of language and the heat of issues.
In her new poetry book, the poet takes us on a journey through the gates of history and identity, evoking the scent of Andalusia and the fragrance of the desert, through metered poems that combine the social, humanitarian, and national dimensions. This work is crowned with a long poetic ode entitled "Rhymes of Andalusia Flowing with Poetry," from the full meter, which forms the backbone of the book, where we feel a brilliant fusion between poetry, rhetoric, and historical narration, in an epic style that connects the past with the present with a unique poetic vision.
The poet highlighted in this ode the prominent role played by the Sahrawi Moroccans, especially the Almoravids and Almohads, in defending Islam in Andalusia, reviewing historical events and figures with a high language and solid eloquence, which gives the text a taste of originality and intellectual depth. The poet also touched on the epics of the Moroccan knights who wrote their glories in the land of Andalusia with steadfastness and courage, confirming that faith and unity were and still are the secret of every victory. With her appeal for tolerance, coexistence, and peace that united Moroccans, Arabs, and non-Arabs.
It is not hidden from the reader that the poet Imhaa Makkawi holds a rich record of participation and honors, as she was crowned with many national and international awards, most notably the first rank and the shield of excellence and creativity from Her Highness the Kuwaiti Sheikha Nawal Al-Sabah. She also contributed to the cultural and educational field through her supervision of cultural programs in educational institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, in addition to her membership in judging committees for poetry competitions at international academies and at the Higher School for Teachers in Martil – Tetouan.
This book is a true embodiment of metered poetry that carries a message, and combines identity and commitment, history and beauty, belonging and true creativity, to give the reader a moment of reflection on the self and memory, and place him before the mirror of the homeland in a language that overflows with honesty and poetic splendor.
