Mediation countries will sign a ceasefire document in Gaza at an international summit to be held on Monday in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, to ensure the implementation of the agreement between the concerned parties.
A diplomatic source told Agence France-Presse that the signatories to the document will be the guarantor parties, namely the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and possibly Turkey, in a move aimed at consolidating the ceasefire that came into effect last Friday, following an attack by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati affirmed that the final and comprehensive solution regarding the future of Gaza passes through the establishment of a Palestinian state, stressing that peace or stability cannot be achieved in the region without resolving the Palestinian issue. The minister indicated that Egypt is following up on the implementation of the first phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan, expressing his hope for cooperation from both Israel and Hamas to accomplish this phase sincerely. He added that Cairo is in constant contact with the Palestinians and Hamas, especially with regard to the release of hostages and detainees, coinciding with Israel's preparations to receive the hostages who will be released by Hamas on Monday morning before the international summit. Trump's plan, which consists of 20 points, is based on ending the war and restoring stability to Gaza, while ensuring the release of prisoners and hostages, paving the way for long-term negotiations aimed at resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.
