On Monday, October 13, 2025, in New York, the State of Qatar renewed its support for the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco to reach a final settlement of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, during a meeting of the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly.
The Qatari representative highlighted that the autonomy initiative is a "constructive proposal" and constitutes an objective basis for any realistic and sustainable solution to this conflict, stressing that Doha sees it as a practical framework that enhances regional stability. In the same context, the Qatari diplomat expressed his country's support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to the Moroccan Sahara, aimed at facilitating the achievement of a lasting political solution based on consensus, within the framework of the political process supervised by the United Nations, and in accordance with the Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2756, while emphasizing respect for the sovereignty of Morocco and its territorial integrity.
