Wydad Athletic Club achieved a valuable victory away from home against its Ghanaian host, Asante Kotoko, with a score of one goal to nil, in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the African Confederation Cup, placing the Red team in an ideal position before the second leg match.
The match began cautiously, with the first half lacking attacking effectiveness and few dangerous attempts from both sides, due to Wydad's defensive solidity and the tactical discipline of its players, relying on counterattacks and exploiting the opponent's mistakes. Immediately after the start of the second half, Wydad translated its initial advantage into a goal, following a well-executed corner kick, with the star player Joseph Bakasso able to score the only goal in the 47th minute with a powerful shot that settled in the net. Wydad maintained its lead throughout the match, despite the Ghanaian team's attempts to come back, to finish the match with an important victory away from the field, before hosting the expected second leg match next Friday in Casablanca to secure the qualifying ticket.
