HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amin Tahraoui, denied during a session of oral questions in the House of Councilors, that any decision had been made to raise the prices of medicines or medical services, stressing that the adopted national reference tariff dates back to 2006 and has not been updated to date.
The Minister explained that what is being circulated regarding the increase in treatment costs is not related to a price increase, but is mainly due to the increased demand for health services, especially in the private sector, after the historic generalization of the mandatory basic health insurance system (AMO), which enabled millions of citizens to access treatment for the first time. He added that this strategic shift in health coverage has put increasing pressure on the national health system, which the ministry is working hard to keep up with by improving the quality of services and expanding the health offer, to ensure that the increasing demand is met. The government official stressed the ministry's commitment to alleviating the financial burden on citizens, through activating mechanisms of care and strengthening the role of mandatory insurance in reducing the cost of treatment, in a way that achieves justice and sustainability within the health system.
