The Ministry of Economy and Finance revealed that during the first eight months of 2025, Moroccans consumed the equivalent of 154.85 million 12-kilogram gas cylinders, thus indicating the volume of demand for this vital material in the national market.
The minister explained in a presentation before the nation's representatives that the cost of the subsidy allocated from the Compensation Fund for butane gas reached 816 million dirhams during the month of August, a decrease of approximately 40 percent compared to January, in which the value of the subsidy recorded 1 billion and 353 million dirhams. This decrease is attributed to the gradual decline in the monthly subsidy level for each cylinder, as well as the decrease in demand for butane gas in recent months, due to improved prices or families adopting alternative energy options in some household uses. This transformation reflects the government's efforts to control public subsidies and regulate consumption while preserving citizens' purchasing power. Observers believe that this decline in monthly subsidy costs contributes to easing the financial burden on the Compensation Fund, and allows the allocation of available financial resources towards other social sectors, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of public spending and ensuring the sustainability of the support provided to the most needy citizens. This development also indicates the government's ability to control and manage subsidy mechanisms gradually and in a balanced manner, achieving a balance between protecting the purchasing power of families and ensuring the sustainability of public financial resources, while taking into account global and local economic challenges related to energy prices.
