In a step reflecting its commitment to ensuring a safe and humane detention environment, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration announced the final closure of the Ain Borja local prison in Casablanca. This decision follows a technical report prepared by a specialized laboratory, which revealed that the building had lost its structural integrity and posed a risk to the safety of inmates, staff, and visitors.
The Delegation clarified that the prison evacuation took place on October 24, 2025, with inmates being transferred to other correctional facilities. The transfer took into consideration their social situations, health conditions, and the capacity of the receiving institutions, ensuring the continued execution of sentences under appropriate conditions. This measure is part of a comprehensive program to modernize and rehabilitate the infrastructure of various prisons, through which the Delegation seeks to improve accommodation conditions, enhance security and safety standards, and develop the services provided within correctional facilities in line with the rights-based approach adopted in the management of this sensitive sector.
