HIBAPRESS – Youssef Aqdad
National coach Walid Regragui announced the list of the Moroccan national team in preparation for the friendly matches against the Mozambique and Uganda national teams in Tangier. Most of the names were logical and acceptable, especially in midfield and attack, while question marks still surround his defensive choices.
Goalkeepers… logic and continuity
The continuation of the basic trio in the goalkeeper's position reflects the clarity of Regragui's vision in this regard, as the list included the best Moroccan goalkeepers at the present time, Bono, El Mohammadi and El Harar, who regularly participate and provide stable levels in their clubs, which made this position the most stable and balanced within the team.
Midfield… fierce competition and understandable absences
Despite the good levels that Imran Louza offers in England, his absence from the list can be explained by the fierceness of the competition in midfield, where Regragui has a group of ready players who enjoy absolute formality in the major European leagues.
Therefore, this decision seemed consistent with the principle of readiness and competitiveness that the national coach announced since he took office.
Diop reserves his place and Adli pays the price of the decline
The decision to call up Sofiane Diop at the expense of Amin Adli was not surprising, especially after the strong performance that Diop is giving with his club in the French league, in return for Adli losing his basic place in the English squad. Regragui was clear in his choices, the return is the decisive factor, not the names or the reputation.
Rahimi returns from the wide gate
The return of Soufiane Rahimi to the Lions’ list was expected, after he signed an exceptional season with Al Ain Emirati, where he imposed himself as one of the most prominent stars of the team locally and continentally, scoring decisive goals and contributing to multiple achievements. Thus, Regragui confirms that he does not close the door to any brilliant player, regardless of the level of the league in which he plays.
Offensive balance and tactical stability
With the exception of some limited absences, the front line of the national team maintained its stability, as the list includes elements that play regularly and enjoy clear tactical harmony, which gives the national coach a greater margin to try various offensive options without prejudice to the balance of the group.
Defense… the source of controversy in Regragui’s choices
Despite the logic of Walid Regragui’s choices in goalkeeping, midfield and attack, the defense position remains the most controversial link in the last list.
The absence of brilliant names such as Baouf, who continues his distinguished performances, and Omar El Hilali, a professional in Spain, and Soufiane El Karouani, who shines in the Dutch league, raises more than one question mark about the selection criteria.
In contrast, the list witnessed the continued presence of Adam Masina and Jawad El Yamiq, despite their long absence from the atmosphere of competition, as they have not participated since the last Congo match in Rabat, which makes this position specifically the weakest points of technical balance within the "Atlas Lions" squad.
