"Before the ax falls on the head," as they say, this article remains a warning bell ringing the alarm of the coming danger that threatens what remains of the water table. This is a message addressed to the competent authorities on the necessity of taking action to stop the bleeding of the main reasons that threaten the groundwater reservoir, and to strike with an iron fist those who violate the law, and to oblige the concerned party to follow all legal administrative procedures before starting to drill the well, to ensure and protect groundwater from waste and arbitrary exploitation, which has reached its peak in some rural communities and even in the heart of the city.
In light of the great scarcity recorded at the level of rainfall, and its impact on the water table in the province of Sattat, the phenomenon of random well drilling has surfaced in a striking and worrying way, threatening the lives of humans and the environment, and sometimes it is done by people who do not respect the principle of following the legal procedures in this regard. Some areas that used to know irrigation crops such as carrots and mint, are now suffering from the specter of thirst and the scarcity of groundwater, against the backdrop of the spread of the phenomenon of random well drilling by drilling machines that eliminate the water table, especially since the drilling process exceeds hundreds of meters, which makes many wells of medium depth have been filled, collapsed and dried up. It is the imminent danger, which is no longer attached to agriculture only, but its repercussions have extended to some shop owners, farms and residential houses of the "high-class" who in turn have begun to adopt the method of poor exploitation of this water wealth through random drilling operations sometimes within their residential sites with increasing danger when this groundwater is exposed to pollution as a result of its mixing with the sewage network.
