HIBAPRESS – Rabat
During a session to discuss the budget of the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Inclusion, and Family, parliamentarian Mariam Ouhassat could not hold back her tears while speaking about the situation of orphaned children and those leaving care institutions after the age of 18.
Ouhassat said: "The number of beneficiaries of the support directed to these children is still very weak, and the government's efforts are not commensurate with their needs," before stopping speaking amidst emotional crying, stressing that reaching the age of 18 does not mean the end of childhood, and many of them are unable to face the challenges of life on their own. She concluded her intervention with great emotion: "I am personally older than them, and I wouldn't be able to go out into the street, so how can a child be left alone just because he turns 18?" to record a sincere and moving moment that reveals the size of the suffering and the need to strengthen support for these young people.
