HIBAPRESS
Mauritanian authorities last week rejected a request from the separatist "Polisario" Front to strengthen relations between them by establishing what the "Rabouni group" calls an "embassy" or "consulate" in Nouakchott, in a new shock to the separatists.
Local sources revealed that Mauritania, despite its recognition of the "imaginary republic" – a position inherited by the current state from previous military regimes – refuses any formal diplomatic recognition of the separatist front. The sources explained that Nouakchott, with this decision, confirms its continued disregard for the separatist front's repeated demands to establish formal diplomatic relations between them. This new shock that the "Polisario" Front is receiving comes days after the UN Security Council's decision on the Moroccan Sahara, in which it supported a solution to the conflict within the framework of autonomy.
