HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
The headquarters of the Souss-Massa region hosted, on the morning of Monday, November 17th, the meeting of the Regional Committee to follow up on the implementation of the Regional Plan to Combat Illiteracy 2023-2027, to evaluate the year's results and review the 2025-2026 work program.
The meeting was chaired by the Wali of the region, Said Amzazi, along with the Director of the National Agency for Combating Illiteracy, Abdeloudoud Kharbouch, and the Vice-President of the Regional Council, Hassan Al-Marzouki, within the framework of implementing the wali's decision issued on December 1, 2023, regarding the establishment of the Regional Committee in charge of following up on this social workshop. During his intervention, Amzazi emphasized that combating illiteracy is a necessary entry point for achieving integrated territorial development, pointing out that the success of this workshop goes through addressing the roots of the problem, primarily school dropout. In this context, he called for adopting a proactive approach that aims to reduce school dropout and reintegrate expelled students, and to establish follow-up mechanisms specifically for children who have dropped out, in addition to supporting inclusive education programs and expanding extracurricular activities as a lever to reduce social and economic vulnerability. In line with the high royal directives, the speakers recalled that the national strategy aims to reduce the illiteracy rate, leading to its eradication by 2029, a goal that requires mobilizing various educational, territorial, and social actors and strengthening governance mechanisms to ensure a diverse and quality educational offering. The meeting was attended by the heads of prefectural and provincial councils, professional chambers, representatives of decentralized services, and civil society, consolidating a participatory approach that makes combating illiteracy a fundamental pillar for achieving the desired development in the Souss-Massa region.
