HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
National Road No. 8, linking Fez and Taounate, witnessed serious collapses following the heavy rainfall that the region experienced.
The torrential floods damaged a part of the road and cut it off in some sections, leading to several accidents and material losses, and raised concerns among users of this vital axis. Several observers attribute these collapses to the absence of quality in the works and the weakness of precautionary measures against weather fluctuations, especially since the region is known for its soil erosion during the first heavy rainfall. Public opinion is also wondering whether an investigation will be opened into the circumstances of what happened on Monday to determine responsibilities. In contrast, some point out that the quality of road works is usually guaranteed by the global company GTR, known for the quality of its achievements, which opens the door to additional questions about the contractor in charge of the project, the conditions of its completion, and the extent of its compliance with safety and quality standards. The residents and users are demanding urgent intervention to repair the damage and secure traffic, especially since this road is the main artery that connects Taounate with the city of Fez.
