HIBAPRESS – Follow-up
Sources revealed on Wednesday that two service members, believed to be from the US National Guard and wearing military uniforms, were shot in the center of Washington, just a few blocks from the White House.
The sources said that the incident occurred in the vicinity of 17th Street and I Street in an area that usually witnesses intense security measures, while the motives for the shooting or the condition of the soldiers are not yet known precisely. The capital's police explained in a statement that they were present at the scene of the incident, urging residents and visitors to avoid the area while emergency teams work to "secure the place" and verify the circumstances of the attack, according to what was published on the "X" platform. The Washington police added that one of the suspects in the shooting incident had been apprehended and the area had been secured, while the White House was closed. The area surrounding the White House usually witnesses a wide deployment of police and federal security units, while investigations are ongoing to find out the details of the incident and the identity of the perpetrator or perpetrators. President Donald Trump was informed of the developments while he was at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, with the White House confirming that the presidential complex itself was not a direct target. The case is still under investigation and developments are ongoing.
