Azzedine El Midaoui, the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, affirmed today in Dakhla that higher education in Morocco has engaged in an ambitious dynamic aimed at strengthening territorial integration, improving the governance of the university system, and consolidating African openness.

El Midaoui explained, in a speech during the opening of the first African summit on health systems and health sovereignty, organized on the initiative of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Health Sciences, that this national orientation is based on a unified system around a common mission: serving students, keeping pace with the major projects of the Kingdom, and contributing to the development of the African continent.

The Minister pointed out that one of the main pillars of this strategy is spatial justice, especially expanding access for the population living in rural, mountainous and remote areas. This approach, in his opinion, aims to ensure equal opportunities to access higher education and health services, within the framework of territorial spread that aligns with the high royal directives.

The Minister praised the good work being done to develop the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, highlighting the strategic location of this region as a natural extension of the Kingdom towards the African continent.

He also highlighted the role of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Health Sciences in strengthening territorial spread, pointing out that the ongoing legislative reforms take into account the need to support the most vulnerable groups and strengthen institutional presence in all regions.

El Midaoui stressed the strategic importance of South-South cooperation in the field of higher education and scientific research, stressing that "every progress that Africa achieves benefits Morocco, and every progress that Morocco achieves benefits Africa."

In this context, he expressed the Kingdom's desire to redouble efforts to increase the number of African students enrolled in Moroccan universities, medical schools and engineering schools.

He affirmed that this dynamic will be strengthened through intensifying partnerships with diplomatic representations, training institutions and African institutional actors, through the exchange of visits and the development of joint programs.

This summit, organized on the initiative of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Health Sciences, falls within the framework of the dynamic led by King Mohammed VI for African health sovereignty, based on innovation, cooperation and capacity building.

The summit aims to provide strategic visions on the future of health systems on the continent, while highlighting African achievements in the field of epidemiology, infrastructure, training, governance, and research, as well as focusing on the need to strengthen networks of expertise in order to make health a major lever for human, economic and social development.
