HIBAPRESS – Rabat
Minister of Justice Abdellatif Wahbi affirmed that the legal framework regulating compensation for traffic accidents has not witnessed any substantial change since the eighties of the last century, which he considered a flaw that requires urgent treatment in light of the social and economic transformations that Morocco has experienced in recent decades.
The minister highlighted during a public session held by the House of Representatives this Tuesday morning that the continued application of outdated texts directly reflects on the judicial system and the rights of the injured. Wahbi explained that the development of traffic volume, the increase in the number of vehicles, and the changing nature of the damages resulting from accidents are all factors that make it necessary to update the current legislation to ensure more fair and appropriate compensation for reality. He added that legal obsolescence creates disparity in judicial interpretations and places litigants in front of difficulties in estimating the value of the damage, which affects the speed of adjudication in the files and raises the level of tension within the Kingdom's courts.
