A high-level French presidential source announced that the meeting of the "European Troika" leaders (Britain, France, and Germany) in London, at the invitation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, aims to agree on a unified European-Ukrainian position that forms a solid basis for negotiation with the United States.
The source confirmed that the Europeans, who were excluded from the recent negotiations on the war in Ukraine, are seeking to understand the details of the negotiations to ensure the development of a position that protects the fundamentals, the most important of which is the right of Ukrainians to self-determination and to define the criteria for a possible peace agreement with Russia. The "European Troika" believes that the choices of the American administration sometimes lean towards Moscow, which prompts European leaders to use all available tools, whether financial or military support through the coalition of the willing, to enable Ukraine to protect its rights and enter into negotiations with Russia from a position of strength. Paris affirms that the optimal path for negotiations is to hear the Americans directly from the Ukrainian side about what is possible and impossible, and then work to extract Russian commitments to ensure the possibility of negotiation and a ceasefire, leading to an agreement that enjoys credibility. Paris indicates that the European role is not limited to that, as it considers the process still in its beginning, and that it is Europe's duty to ensure that the interests of Ukraine and Europe together are taken into consideration in any negotiations between Washington and Moscow, ensuring a balanced and strong position for Ukraine.
