The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdelssamad Sekkouh, said today, Tuesday, in El Jadida, during the opening of the fourth session of the Railway Industry Summit in Morocco, that railways constitute the structural axis of sustainable transportation in Morocco.
In a speech on the occasion, Sekkouh affirmed that the development of railways is today at the heart of national priorities, as a fundamental lever to enhance territorial connectivity, keep pace with the increasing growth in transport, and achieve the goals of logistical competitiveness set by the new development model.
In this regard, he pointed out that Morocco continues to create a radical transformation in the railway system, thanks to structural investments and an integrated vision aimed at modernizing infrastructure, diversifying services, and improving the quality of transportation in a sustainable manner.
According to the Minister, the efforts made over the past two decades have enabled railways to become a strategic sector capable of meeting the increasing aspirations of citizens and the needs of economic actors.
Sekkouh also highlighted the expected expansion of the high-speed train network, which will cover four main regions in the Kingdom, in addition to the development of regional rapid train services in Casablanca, Rabat and Marrakech.
He pointed out that these projects will contribute to reducing travel time, facilitating daily commuting, and enhancing territorial cohesion, adding that the railway connection to the stadiums in Rabat, Marrakech and Ben Slimane falls within the framework of preparations for the 2030 World Cup.
