The French police arrested on Tuesday evening in Paris, the journalist and political analyst of the "Algeria International" channel (AL24 News) Mehdi Gharraz, known for his controversial statements and of a hostile nature towards Morocco.
Gharraz spent a whole night in detention in a police station, before being released on Wednesday morning without any formal charges. Gharraz explained in a statement to his channel that he was subjected to interrogation for hours before his release.
The Algerian News Agency reported that the French security forces informed Gharraz upon his arrest that he was listed in the "S" file, as well as on the list of wanted persons, which are exceptional measures applied to those whom the authorities consider a potential threat to public security.
The legal reasons or the exact background for his arrest have not yet been revealed, while the media and human rights circles are awaiting any official clarifications from the French authorities regarding the circumstances of the arrest and the rapid release.
