The city of Fez is preparing to host a sports and cultural event parallel to the finals of the African Cup of Nations 2025, which consists of organizing the "Mini CAN Fez" within the campus of the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez. This initiative comes within the framework of the national dynamic accompanying this major continental event that Morocco will host from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
Information indicates that this event will feature the participation of sixteen teams representing thirteen African countries, including Niger, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Djibouti, Comoros, Benin, Gabon, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Central Africa, Burkina Faso, in addition to Morocco. The tournament matches will be played on a direct elimination basis, where "9-a-side football" will be adopted in the various roles, while the final match will be played with "11-a-side football." Fifteen matches are expected to be held, all distributed across the facilities of the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez. The data that HIBAPRESS has received confirms that the event is not limited to the sports aspect only, but also aims to create a space for communication, rapprochement, and the celebration of African cultural diversity. The event will witness a final match followed by an official awards ceremony, with the participation of a number of partners, including African cultural associations, the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez, and the Fez Regional Football League. This initiative aims to strengthen ties between African communities and highlight the richness of African cultures, in addition to providing an interactive experience before the start of the CAN competitions. Through the organization of "Mini CAN," the city of Fez highlights its vital role in the national preparations to host the African Cup of Nations, as this event is expected to attract a large audience and contribute to the revitalization of the city and give it a celebratory character. The adopted slogan "Yalla, Let's CAN!" reflects the spirit of enthusiasm, unity, and celebration of African football.
