HIBAPRESS
The epidemiological situation in Morocco has witnessed a noticeable acceleration in the registration of seasonal flu cases since mid-November, against the backdrop of the emergence of a new sub-strain, scientifically known as K of the A(H3N2) virus, which has been described in the media as the "super flu" due to its rapid spread and the severity of its symptoms in some groups.
According to the health data available, this strain has caused an increase in the number of cases in recent weeks, especially with the drop in temperatures and the increase in gatherings in enclosed spaces, which provided suitable conditions for the transmission of infection.
The most vulnerable groups
Health authorities indicate that the greatest danger affects the elderly, people with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart and respiratory diseases, in addition to pregnant women, children between the ages of six months and five years, as well as people with weakened immunity or obesity. Higher probabilities of complications requiring hospitalization are recorded in these groups.
Effectiveness of seasonal vaccines
Despite the spread of the new sub-strain, the data confirms that the flu vaccines approved during the current season provide partial protection against infection, but they remain highly effective in preventing serious cases and severe complications, which makes vaccination an essential option, especially among vulnerable groups.
Preventive measures remain essential
In light of this situation, health recommendations emphasize the need to adhere to preventive measures, including staying at home when flu symptoms appear, taking care to wash hands regularly, ventilating enclosed spaces continuously, in addition to wearing a mask in cases of congestion or when mixing with people suspected of being infected.
Specialists confirm that respecting these measures, in addition to vaccination, remains the most effective way to limit the spread of infection and reduce pressure on the health system during the peak of the winter season.
