HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
Several mountainous areas in the Taroudant region witnessed significant snowfall over the past two days, affecting the highlands and foothills of the Little Atlas, including the Igrem community and its surroundings. The peaks and mountainous spaces were covered in a white mantle, adding a unique natural scene to the region.
These snowfalls coincided with a noticeable drop in temperatures, leading to the formation of layers of snow on roads and mountain paths in a number of isolated villages. This has brought to the forefront the constraints of movement and the difficulty of access, especially for residents who depend daily on these paths. Despite the harsh weather and severe cold, a number of local actors and residents of the mountainous areas view this snow as a very important positive factor, given its vital role in feeding the groundwater and recharging the water table, as well as its positive reflections on the vegetation cover and improving the conditions of the next agricultural season. In this context, local authorities are monitoring the situation of roads and mountain paths, while calling on their users to take precautions and respect safety conditions, especially during periods of frost, pending an improvement in weather conditions in the coming days. These snowfalls fall within the climate fluctuations that the mountainous areas of the Taroudant region and the various areas of the Atlas are experiencing, which, despite their seasonal challenges, remain a fundamental lever for strengthening the water stock and achieving a kind of environmental balance in the region.
