The Club of the Homeland, a Moroccan cultural club based in Sydney, expressed its surprise at what it considered the neglect of the efforts of active Moroccan associations in Australia, following a statement issued by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Australia on December 11, 2025, regarding the awarding of the national prize for civil participation for the year 2025 to the Moroccan Association in Perth.
The club clarified that it congratulates this achievement and wishes the association further success, but the wording of the statement raised questions within Moroccan association circles due to what was considered a neglect of other initiatives that have been in place for years, working in cultural, social, and awareness-raising fields, and contributing to the promotion of Moroccan culture within the Australian community. The statement indicated that describing the winning association as "the only Moroccan association in Australia" does not reflect, according to the club, the reality of the association's plurality, considering that this approach may be understood as unjustified exclusion of clear efforts, which may negatively affect trust and the unity of association work within the Moroccan community. The association activists affirmed that their demand does not relate to glorification or seeking personal recognition, but rather to obtaining an official clarification that reflects the true reality of the plurality of Moroccan associations, and ensures a fair institutional discourse that recognizes the various initiatives that serve the community and promote Moroccan heritage and culture. The statement concluded by emphasizing the continuation of these associations in performing their cultural and social mission with a positive and responsible spirit, while calling for strengthening communication and institutional cooperation in a way that serves the unity of the Moroccan community in Australia and enhances the presence of Moroccan culture in the public space.
