A national umbrella union of the health sector strongly condemned what it called the government’s continued authoritarianism and violation of freedoms and the right to peaceful protest, denouncing the ban on the peaceful march and the arrest of health executives, demanding their immediate release.
The union also deplored in a statement, obtained by Hiba Press, the ignorance and non-application by the head of government of the agreement signed with the unions, calling for the implementation of all its clauses, both material and legal.
The protesters have decided to continue their program of struggle and to intensify their actions, announcing strikes throughout the month of July in all hospital, preventive, administrative and training establishments nationwide, with the exception of emergency and intensive care services, according to the following schedule:
– Continuation of the strike today, Thursday 11, and another strike tomorrow, Friday.
– 5-day strike: Monday to Friday, July 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19, 2024.
– 5-day strike: Monday to Friday, July 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26, 2024.
– Regional and local protest stops or marches according to the conditions of each region, holding the government accountable for its disrespectful treatment of citizens’ health, promising further actions if union demands are not met.
The union accused the government of violating the right to protest through the arrests during last Wednesday’s march, where medical staff expressed their anger at the lack of a peaceful and civilized response to their legitimate demands, the statement said.
