Surveillance camera recordings belonging to the police in the American state of Ohio documented the moment a suspect in a shoplifting case attempted to shoot a police officer from a very close range, before a malfunction of the weapon and the intervention of an employee prevented serious injuries.
The incident came after the suspect, aged 21, was arrested with a woman who was with him, against the backdrop of suspicion of their involvement in stealing goods from inside the store. The footage showed how the situation turned in a matter of seconds from a routine procedure to review the data to an armed confrontation, as the officer was preparing to examine the data of the suspects before the young man took out a pistol that was hidden inside a bag on his shoulder and directed it directly towards the security officer. The officer added that he was preparing to use his service weapon, but he refrained from firing to avoid injuring the store employee who was trying to remove the weapon from the suspect's hand.
