HIBAPRESS – Azilal
The Azilal province, particularly the Ait Abdi area of the Zawiya Ahansal commune, witnessed heavy snowfall reaching unprecedented levels, leading to the isolation of several villages and difficulty accessing them.
In this context, the regional monitoring and follow-up committee received notification that a woman had just given birth inside her home in the Douar of Sellout Ait Abdi and needed urgent medical intervention. However, the thickness of the snow prevented the ambulance from reaching her. Immediately, various interveners were mobilized, including local authorities, the Royal Gendarmerie, civil protection, and auxiliary forces, in addition to the equipment services, the group of communes of the High and Middle Atlas, and the regional directorate of health and social protection. Snowplows were deployed to try to open the paths and facilitate the ambulance's access via the Zawiya Ahansal center towards the Zarkan area. However, the intensity of the snow and the difficult terrain thwarted these attempts, necessitating the resort to an alternative solution, where the woman was transported this Tuesday morning, December 23, 2025, aboard a Royal Gendarmerie helicopter from the Douar of Sellout Ait Abdi to the city of Azilal, where the ambulance and the medical team were waiting for her. After that, the woman was transferred to the Azilal Regional Hospital to receive the necessary medical treatment, in an intervention that reflects the authorities' vigilance and coordination to ensure the safety of citizens in such difficult climatic conditions.
