Today, the city of Badalona, near Barcelona, witnessed extensive security interventions carried out by the public forces, as part of an official campaign aimed at combating the phenomenon of real estate occupation, known locally as "Occupas".
According to preliminary data, units from the local police and the Catalan police (Mossos d'Esquadra) participated in the operation, where a number of buildings and houses that had been illegally seized were stormed. These interventions aim to restore public order, implement judicial decisions issued to evacuate the occupied properties, in addition to protecting the rights of owners and affected residents.
This security campaign comes in light of the escalating complaints from local residents about the consequences of this phenomenon, which include a lack of a sense of security, a deterioration in the quality of life, as well as problems related to noise, vandalism, and connecting electricity and water in illegal ways. The authorities have confirmed that some of these places have turned into hotbeds of social tension and illegal activities.
For its part, the official authorities stressed that the intervention was carried out within the framework of the law, with respect for judicial procedures and ensuring the physical safety of all parties involved. They also explained that combating the "Occupas" phenomenon is not limited to security solutions, but also includes social approaches aimed at finding housing alternatives for vulnerable groups, in coordination with social services and municipalities.
It is worth mentioning that the city of Badalona is among the areas that are noticeably suffering from the spread of real estate occupation, which has prompted the local and regional authorities to intensify their efforts in recent months to curb this phenomenon, and maintain stability and security within residential neighborhoods.
These operations remain under public scrutiny, between demands to tighten the measures against illegal occupiers, and calls in return to address the social and economic reasons behind the exacerbation of the phenomenon.
