HIBAPRESS – Mohammed Manfalouti
Most weekly markets in Settat province are experiencing a disastrous situation due to the deterioration of their infrastructure. The ongoing rainfall has exposed their limitations and concretely revealed a significant weakness in their equipment.
While these weekly markets in the province are among the most important resources that generate significant amounts for the budgets of the municipalities of various types, most of them lack a wise policy from those in charge, causing structural imbalances that make access difficult. In the summer, there is a lot of dust, garbage, and foul odors, and in the winter, puddles and mud fill the place, making it very difficult to display goods, which requires the concerned authorities to allocate part of the revenues of these markets to equip their spaces, provide them with all the basic needs of water, electricity, and others, organize and secure them to provide suitable conditions for the buying and selling process to preserve the health of consumers. Many citizens have expressed their anger at the deteriorating conditions in many weekly markets in the province, calling for the repair of their surfaces, the establishment of rainwater drainage channels, the provision of drinking water taps, toilets, and parking lots, condemning the lack of monitoring by the municipal councils and local authorities affiliated with these markets over the people who win the contract for their rental, in addition to the fierce attack of thieves and those lurking in the pockets of citizens, with the chaos of the amounts due to be paid at their entrance for goods or livestock.
