The judicial police services of the regional security in Ouarzazate, in close coordination with the regional command of the Royal Gendarmerie, were able, in a short time, to arrest a person suspected of being involved in the shooting at police officers in the city, which occurred last night during an attempt to smuggle a quantity of drugs.
The arrest of the person concerned came based on accurate intelligence provided by the services of the General Directorate for the Monitoring of National Territory, which made it possible to determine his place of hiding and surround him before arresting him during a joint security operation in which the judicial police and the Royal Gendarmerie participated, along with specialized teams belonging to the “DST”. This operation resulted in the seizure of the firearm used in the confrontation with security elements during the intervention, without any injuries among the police officers, according to the available data. According to initial information, the suspect, who is in his fifties and hails from one of the cities in the north of the Kingdom, is likely to be associated with criminal networks active in drug smuggling. He has been placed under custodial detention, within the framework of the judicial investigation that is being conducted under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution, in order to reveal all the circumstances and ملابسات of the case and identify the other possible accomplices.
