HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
The port of Agadir witnessed today, Thursday, a disturbing incident after a small taxi suddenly fell into the water basin, in a scene described by eyewitnesses as "terrifying".
The accident occurred at a very sensitive time, with the arrival of a giant cruise ship at the port, which would have turned the situation into a real disaster if the taxi had been carrying foreign passengers. The driver, in his fifties, miraculously escaped death after losing control of his car near the dock, while the car sank completely in the water, causing serious damage. Port police and local authorities intervened quickly to contain the situation, and the operation to retrieve the car by a huge crane began, amid a gathering of citizens who watched the scene with astonishment and fear. The incident reopens the debate about the randomness of vehicles entering the port, especially taxis that rush to customers randomly, which reflects the weakness of control and management of port facilities, which may lead to greater accidents in the future. The driver stated that he lost control for a few moments due to the absence of signals and controls, holding a part of the accident due to the randomness of organizing vehicle traffic in the port. This incident is an urgent alarm bell for the concerned authorities to tighten the control of vehicles entering the port and apply strict safety standards, especially with the intensity of the movement of cruise ships that receive large numbers of passengers daily.
