The so-called Foreign Minister of "Somaliland", Abdi Rahman Abdullahi Adam, said that Israel's recognition of "his country" is not related to the developments of the war in Gaza, nor to any political obligations or compromises, stressing that the step was taken outside this context.
The breakaway region of "Somaliland", which is seeking secession, is considered part of the territory of Somalia and did not enjoy any international recognition before Tel Aviv recently announced its recognition of the region as a "state".
Adam clarified in a televised interview broadcast on Saturday evening that the issue of Gaza was not raised within the discussion of recognition, nor was any agreement reached regarding hosting the residents of the sector, denying what was circulating from allegations about the repercussions of the step on the Palestinian conflict.
These statements come in light of the controversy surrounding the background of Israeli recognition, especially after the name of Somaliland was circulated earlier as a possible option within a plan proposed by US President Donald Trump regarding voluntary migration from Gaza before retracting it.
In contrast, Israel's Channel 14 had stated that the recognition of Somaliland came in exchange for absorbing Gaza residents, following the announcement by the Prime Minister's office, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Friday, of the official recognition of the Republic of Somaliland and considering the step of a historical nature.
